Walking route from the West Midlands to stockport?

I want to walk from the West Midlands to Stockport as a sponsored walk, to raise money to help Alzheimers Disease sufferers. What is the best way to find the best route to take. Also, any tips on long walks gratefully recieved. Thanks.

What is a VPN?
